Visiting a theme park like Southport Pleasureland is loads of fun for all the family – and it's even better if you come prepared.

So, what should you bring with you to make the most of your trip? Here are some top tips to help you get ready for a fantastic day you'll remember forever.

Make the most of rainy days…

Unfortunately, there's always a chance it will be wet in rainy old England. The good news is that you can still have a brilliant day out at Southport Pleasureland, even if the weather's not so brilliant.

Pleasureland will still be open to all
unless there are extreme adverse weather conditions. So, it's a good idea to pack some waterproofs and a small umbrella if there's a chance it will be wet.

Ponchos might also be handy on our splashtastic log flumes – but they're by no means necessary.

…And hot days

Southport Pleasureland is a perfect place to visit when it's hot. There's plenty of shade around the park and lots of places to get chilled refreshments. You can also bask in the sun and enjoy the tranquil gardens, wildflower patches and floral displays dotted all around the park.

Be sure to bring
fans, sun lotion and water bottles to keep you cool, safe and hydrated. You can bring your own drinks and snacks into the park with you – and there are areas to refill reusable water bottles.

Hats and sunglasses are essential for all the family – you don't want to be squinting all day! You might also want to bring some lip balm to avoid uncomfortable dry lips.

Finally, don't forget that kids can cool off in our Splash Pool when the sun's beaming – so make sure they wear
swimming costumes underneath their warm-weather clothes.

Backpack essentials

Bringing a bum bag or a small backpack is a great way to keep your essentials at hand.

Stick some
hand sanitiser and wet wipes in there. Whether you're mopping up a spilt drink or wiping a little one's messy face, they always come in handy.

You can also keep your sun lotion in there – and a small
first aid kit in case any accidents happen. Hair bobbles are another must for small children with longer hair.

Ziplock bags
are surprisingly useful at theme parks – you can use them to keep snacks and leftovers fresh. You can also put your phones or other valuables in there if you're worried about them getting wet on rides.

A portable mobile phone charger is a great item to bring in case you run out of battery. This can easily happen if you're taking lots of snaps and videos throughout the day. Using data can drain the battery even faster.

Finally, make sure you bring a
wallet and credit card for any contactless payments, whether you keep them in your bum bag or in another secure place.

You probably won't need everything you normally carry in your everyday wallet, so consider taking a different one with just the things you need.

Medication

If you have to take any prescribed
medicine during the day, don't forget to bring that.

A sunny day can be made miserable if you forget to bring your antihistamines. And if you're prone to getting headaches, bring along some paracetamol or another over-the-counter pain medicine.

Comfortable shoes

It's a good idea for you and all the family to wear
comfortable shoes for your visit. You're likely to be on your feet for a large part of the day – although Southport Pleasureland does have lots of seats and benches where you can take a load off.

Theme parks aren't the best places to
show off the latest fashion – go for comfortable clothes. Even better if they're water-resistant.

Drink and snacks

Did we mention you can bring your own
food and soft drinks with you?

Southport Pleasureland has lots of lovely picnic spots throughout the park where you and your family can enjoy a nice relaxing lunch break. Once you're finished, just use the bins provided or take your rubbish home with you.

You'll also find a wide range of
outlets in the park serving delicious meals, drinks and snacks to tempt your tastebuds.

For tasty burgers, hot dogs and chips look no further than Della's Diner – or if you want something a little bit more gourmet, check out Captain Jack's Bistro.

Of course, you can get delicious traditional fish and chips. And for those of you with a sweet tooth, we have a waffle house, freshly made doughnuts, a slush bar and pancakes

You don't have to leave your dog at home

Southport Pleasure is one of the few theme parks that's
dog-friendly.

Well-behaved dogs are more than welcome. Just make sure they are kept on a lead at all times – and please clean up after them.

Toddler buggy

Walking around a theme park all day can be hard on little legs. Even if your child is old enough to walk,
toddler buggies are great if they need a nap or a bit of relief. It's also a great way to avoid temper tantrums! An absolute must for children under five.

What not to bring

Make sure you don't bring any glass containers, alcohol, or any dangerous items with you.

Make a list

The best way to prepare for a fun day out at a theme park is to write down a list – on your phone or a piece of paper – and check that when you pack to avoid forgetting anything. You can use this guide as a starting point, adding anything else you might need as you go.
