Sunday 24th May was a great day at Pleasureland when we hosted an amazing event with specialist carvers from across the country competing against each other.
Each carver had an 8 ft tall log of wood and four hours to make something spectacular – and they didn’t disappoint! There was a mermaid, a man climbing through wood, a beautiful bench – and much more. Stunning pieces of art work.
After the four hours and a bit of a breather for the carvers, they then had to get back to their chainsaws and with just 30 minutes, carve yet another piece of art work in the ‘speed carve’ session.
The pieces were judged and voted on and the People’s Award was won by local carver, Simon Archer who created the fabulous owl-embellished bench. The carvers also voted for their own favourite in the Carvers’ Choice which was won by Garry Shand who came all the way from Scotland and created the wonderful mermaid.
The items from the speed carve event were sold and raised £395 for local charity Community Link Foundation. The large items were auctioned off and thanks must go to Paul F Quinn, the auctioneer.
Thanks also to Russ, our own resident magician who did a great job as announcer and also to Batala Mersey who brought a carnival atmosphere to the park that day with their samba drumming.
