Southport has always been a great town for running events, particularly with the terrain being predominantly flat enabling runners to get good times – although the coastal wind can be a problem!
While we no longer host the Town Centre races, the Beach Race or the Red Sunset 5k (for those athletes with good memories!), the last few years has seen a resurgence of running events in the area. Southport Half Marathon is just one of the great, local races now held in the town and we are looking forward to welcoming all of the runners and spectators on Sunday 5th July.
The race starts at 9am in Victoria Park, travelling South on the Coast Road before turning back North to Fairways then winding back to the park for the finish. The fastest runners will be hitting the finish line around 10.15 so presentations will take place at 11am.
There are lots of places to watch the runners go past, particularly if you take a stroll down to the Coast Road or Marine Drive (some road closures will be in place). So do give them support!
And once it’s all over, you have the perfect reason for popping into Pleasureland for a warming cuppa or to take the children on those promised “few rides” once mum or dad is back from their amazing athletic efforts!
